Question:

Hi, I am doing some enquiring about how to get rid of my scars. I have a few scars from having surgery but one big scar from half way from my stomach to top of my pelvis. and also  a raised bit on side of my belly button which I think is a little hernia. I just want to know if plastic or cosmetic surgery can get rid of these. I am very self conscious in summer when i would like to wear bikinis with no top. But I hate the look of my stomach. I just want it smooth out. How much would it cost as well?

Answer:

Firstly, it is possible to reduce the appearance of scars, but it is not possible to 'get rid' of them completely. In some cases the scar requires surgical revision , that is , it is re-cut and sutured back together in a better fashion to achieve a smaller scar. In other cases, a laser such as the Fraxel laser can be used to remodel the collagen in the scar to help to smooth it out. Finally, in some cases, where the scar is painful, itchy and growing at a fast rate, it is possible that this is a keloid scar and this type of scarring usually requires cortisone injections.

Dear Vic Cosmetic Institute, I am contemplating getting several sessions of the Medlite laser treatment to help reduce the acne scarring that i have on my cheeks. The scars are pretty old (approx 10 yrs). I am prone to keloid scarring, and have keloid scars on both jaw lines as a result of severe chicken pox in my early 20s. I do get corticosteroid injections for the keloid scars probably once every 3-6 months to maintain them. Any suggestions and recommendations on the best treatments available on how to: 1) reduce the acne scarring 2) help maintain the keloids would be much appreciated. thank you.

Hi I have been taking isotretinoin pills for three months and my acne is cleared up already. My doctor suggested me to take the pills for at least 5 months. So my question is am I able to have treatment now on acne scarring or I should better wait after i stop my medicine? Also, just wondering what treatments you would suggest for scar healing after taking the pills as i read from your site that fractional CO2 Laser Treatments may not be suitable. Thanks.

I have been looking on your website and would like some advise on skin treatments. I am 25 years old and have problems with acne. I have mild acne scars, active pimples and also blackheads and want to do something to fix these problems. Most of the time, even makeup doesn't cover the problems and it is very embarrassing. Can you treat stretchmarks? I am getting EXTREMELY mixed information. I visited a plastic surgeon who claims the answer is unequivically NO. Websites claim fractionated CO2 and Fraxel have some success. I am 34 years old and have many on my thighs that bother me. I dont care about the white marks but the skin is indented and wrinkled. I am looking for something that will help the look of these. Afew of them are raised. I am petite only 48kg and have the marks from regular exersise. I am told just prone and very unlucky. Will a few fraxel treatments help to fill out the indentations and overall look of the skin? Have you had any happy clients?
