Rosacea/Sensitive Skin Serum

Calm was designed to increase the density of skin in order to cover capillaries while also calming inflammation and encouraging repair in a non-irritating fashion. It's liposomes improve penetration whilst restoring the health of the skin barrier. An intact barrier is a crucial component in the restoration process of rosacea treatments.

Similar to Mend but in a stronger concentration, Calm also contains anti-inflammatory ingredients such as Sandalwood and Slippery Elm Extract and calming Willow Herb and Wild Cherry Bark in an all natural serum.

Rosacea

Osmosis are presented with clear evidence what is causing skin to be inflamed and most triggers are related to digestion/foods. While some would argue that exercise and environmental changes are triggers, Osmosis see those as vascular stimulators (facial flushing occurs in individuals) that are exaggerated by the existing inflamed state of the skin. To properly address Rosacea, one of the foci has to be the rebuilding of the dermis which is rapidly depleted as a result of the chronic inflammation in the skin. It is also extremely important to calm the skin without steroids or antibiotics which can interfere with wound repair.

Calm - Rosacea/Sensitive Skin Serum Anti-inflammatory Effects:

Inflammation is the culprit here, most of the redness we see is a normal repair response to correct the damage that is the good thing. MD and skin care professionals mistakenly place the blame on the vascular system and thus collapse these healing vessels with lasers. Inflamed skin utilizes substantially more antioxidants, enzymes, proteins and lipids to keep up the effort. This requires a ramped up vascular response so it is reasonable that we trust the skin is doing what it needs to do and we should assist wherever possible. Osmosis antioxidants are primarily those found naturally in the skin and that is why it provides such effective anti-inflammatory effects. In addition, Willow Herb is highly effective at calming the skin. The overall goal is to minimize the degradation of the skin and redirect the skins immune capabilities to rebuild (instead of repair) efforts.

Skin Rebuilding Effects

Many people would prefer to collapse capillaries, at Osmosis, they choose to rebuild the collagen lost and blanket these nutrient vessels with more dermis so that they are less visible. Osmosis also feel the need to regulate the vascular activity. Both these actions are achieved with Retinaldisome. Studies show that 0.05% Retinaldehyde improves Rosacea without irritating the skin. Studies also show that Retinaldehyde regulated VEGF, a key to its ability to normalize the redness often seen. It doesn't hurt that is also exfoliating, antibacterial, collagen stimulating and sebum-regulating. The end result is that it clams inflammation and reduces the ongoing thinning effects of the condition while rebuilding it to it healthy, non-vascular, redness-free state.

Circulation

This has everything to do with your skins heath and it is substantially overlooked by the skincare community. All the skin food, immune support, antioxidant and remodelling efforts all come from the blood supply. Every time you are stressed, you drink coffee or go outside in cold weather, your skin suffers a little because all of these things restrict bloodflow to the dermis. Vitamin K, horse chestnut and caffeine in skincare products are all designed to reduce bloodflow. There is no skin condition (Rosacea, Dark Circles, etc) that is better off with less bloodflow. That is why the utilization of Retinaldehyde, Niacinamide, Camphor, and other circulation enhancing ingredients makes such a big difference in the quality and health of the skin. Bags under the eyes are the result of vasoconstriction (reduced bloodflow) and the correlation between loss of blood supply and the thinning of the dermis with age are more than a coincidence. Remember, it is a thinning dermis that is the primary cause of visible capillaries. The reason capillaries return after treatment is because the skin wants adequate blood supply in the area. The best way to reduce this is to build back the collagen/elastin (in the dermis) that covers these vessels.

Stimulation

This is an important term because it needs to be differentiated from the typical remodelling strategies employed by most skincare companies. Glycolic Acid - this ingredient is in most products and its touted as a rejuvenating ingredient. The skin doesn't have glycolic acid receptors so its method of action is simply to destroy whatever it can. The reason there is any effect is only because the skin, in response to the devastation, replaces itself with new layers. The epidermis swells a little from the inflammation (temporarily reducing the appearance of lines), the new skin is less pigmented (helping hyperpigmentation superficially) but the net effect the skins resources were used to repair the recent damage rather than repairing the substantial damage that was the initial treatment goal. So how do you stimulate the skin without damaging it? There is a few ingredients for this task but one stands out as a clear leader, Retinaldehyde. The key remodelling components in the skin are the Fibroblasts. They make collagen, elastin and GAGs, their receptors, is the true target and Retinaldehyde does a wonderful job at stimulating Fibroblasts without trauma. Retinaldehyde is what the skin uses to make collagen by converting it to Retinoic Acid.

Protection

Most people think that protection is a sunscreen. Sunscreens create damage in the skin and have been shown to increase skin cancer rates. Sun-blocks like titanium and zinc, however, do protect by reflecting UV rays before they increase skin cancer rates. The best method of protection actually comes at the cellular level. Antioxidants used in the skin include catalase, L-glutathione, L-superoxide dismutase, Vitamin C and E amongst other ones. Antioxidants are constantly being used, restored and used again because we are literally in a constant state of inflammation. High dose antioxidants had proven not to only significantly reduce damage in the skin, they actually allow the skin to rebuild itself by shrinking the repair requirements, thus resulting in a thicker, healthier dermis. To make the process most effective, high percentage of these healing actives should be used and adjunctive ingredients like liposomal technology, ensures that they reach their target.

Vitamin A

Let us be very clear there is no more important skin ingredient than Vitamin A.  Vitamin A calms redness, clears acne, thickens thinning dermis, removes scar tissue (phyma), minimises telangiectasias, normalises oil, restores epidermal barrier health

These skin conditions need non-irritation active ingredients to remodel damaged skin in a way that promotes healing. Both rosacea and sensitive skin are a result of inflammation therefore it is critical to use ingredients to remodel, repair and calm so skin health is restored.

The capillaries and redness often seen with rosacea and sensitive skin reflect two co-existing conditions- the skin attempting to repair itself by increasing blood supply to certain areas and over time this skin thins from excessive inflammation resulting in more capillaries being revealed

Ingredients found in CALM - Rosacea treatment serum

Phosphatidycholine- liposomal delivery system, derived from lecithin

Purified water

Niacinamide- stimulates collagen and elastin. Included in suitable amounts as not to overstimulate skin.

Willow Herb extract- strong as hydrocortisone but doesnít thin the skin, the dark appearance of CALM is due to the strong percentage of willow herb extract.

Wild cherry bark

1,3 Beta Glucan- works on scar tissue. Skin leaves waste product in the dermis, disrupting organised layer of collagen. 1,3 beta glucan assist with removal of scar tissue (macrophage stimulator)

Chlorella Vulgaris - green algae stimulating collagen and elastin and GAG properties while being powerful antioxidant.

Xanthum gum a high molecular polysaccharide composed of glucose, mannose and glucuronic acid, used as natural thickener for skin products and foods. Found on foliage of leafy green plants

L-sodium lactate

MSM improves penetration of ingredients, while purifying the skin

Aspirin- calming properties

Sandalwood

Slippery elm extract- obtained from the inner bark of the Ulmus Fulva tree. Used for anti-inflammatory and softening properties

Retinaldehyde (0.075%)-proven research is effective for rosacea, thickens collagen sandwich in skin

Mend- (rosacea/sensitive skins) introduction rosacea serum, less stimulating than calm, less amounts of active ingredients than Calm rosacea/sensitive skin serum (20mL- $100)
