In this video Dr. Natasha Moscato, MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor
of Surgery), FRACGP ( Fellowship of the Royal College of General
Practioners) demonstrates four laser machines that are used at the
Victorian Cosmetic Institute to remove facial and/or body hair.
In this video Dr. Natasha Moscato from The Victorian Cosmetic Institute demonstrates the four different laser hair removal hair machines available for use.
The first laser machine covered is Cynosure's Apogee Elite. This particular device is appropriate for lighter skin types and both coarse and dark hairs. It uses two wavelengths to achieve this, 755 nanometres (nm) and 1064nm. Dr. Moscato works on the patient's leg hairs in this part of the video, checking in with the patient after using the laser for a few seconds. It is important to know her pain level and carefully monitor skin reaction to the laser. This patient describes the pulse of the laser as equivalent to "the flick of a rubber band."
The Gemini laser is the second machine used in this video. It is appropriate for olive or darker skin types and is used to lighten or remove coarse hair. All the laser wands have a cooling device on the end that protects the patient's skin. After applying a cooling gel to the next patient's face, Dr. Moscato applies the laser to an area close to the woman's hairline.
The third laser used is the Ruby laser, used on fair skin for both fine and coarse hair. Dr. Moscato demonstrates the device on a woman's forearm. No cooling gel is required for this procedure nor does the patient express any discomfort.
The Medlite laser is the fourth and last machine that is featured. It is used on olive or darker skin types. The laser makes a distinctive clicking sound as it is applies to the male patient's face, lightening hair on his cheek. He appears to experience no discomfort at all. Protective eyewear must be worn by both doctor and patient whenever laser machines are used.
Patients who wish to remove unwanted hair find laser treatments very helpful. It can remove permanently remove existing hairs but does not prevent the growth of new hairs. Three to eight sessions are required for treatment as the best results come from targeting hairs in their active growth state.
Dr. Moscato provides an interesting demonstration of the four types of laser machines used at the Victorian Cosmetic Institute. This video is helpful to patients who are curious about the proper laser procedure for their particular skin coloration.
