Plasma Skin Regeneration Demonstration Video

In this Video Dr Gavin Chan provides a demonstration of a low level energy plasma skin regeneration treatment.

Plasma skin regeneration (PSR) is a technique used by practitioners at The Victorian Cosmetic Institute to change the texture of skin and improve its appearance. Dr. Gavin Chan, MBBS demonstrates this procedure on Fiona, a nurse at the clinic. PSR alters the structure of the skin below the surface when pulses of ionized inert nitrogen gas are applied to the skins surface. The treatment encourages the skin to produce collagen and elastin, improving the skin's texture and appearance. Clinical studies have demonstrated that patients show continued improvement for up to twelve months after treatment.

The treatment begins at Fiona's forehead. Fiona's face is marked off into small sections by white lines. As Dr. Chan moves the wand across her forehead, he asks the nurse if she is uncomfortable. She tells him that she feels fine; she feels no pain at all just a rush of air across her skin. Dr. Chan comments that low-level energy treatments require only the anesthetic cream to prevent discomfort. High-level energy treatments may require anesthetic injections to ensure that the patient feels no pain.

When Dr. Chan completes the treatment, he asks Fiona to describe how she feels. She tells him that she feels a little bit of heat around the outside area of treatment but overall feels fine. Her skin is a little redder than before treatment and the pigment spots are a little darker.

Dr. Chan moves from the forehead to a section just under Fiona's eye. PSR is not a laser and this allows the doctor to treat small wrinkles and discoloration under the eye safely and effectively without goggles. The skin becomes smoother and wrinkles are reduced after the treatment. Low-level treatments have a five to seven day recovery window. If high-level energy treatments are indicated, the recover time is usually seven to fourteen days. For the best results with low level treatments, patients must undergo two or three treatments spaced three weeks apart.

Individuals who wish to reduce the appearance of sun damage, wrinkles, acne scars, or skin pigmentation may find plasma skin regeneration a good option. The procedure does not take a great deal of time, the recovery time is not excessive, and the end result is a decrease in the appearance of wrinkles or acne scars and smoother, younger looking skin.
