How to avoid brow heaviness with forehead anti-wrinkle injections

Do you want to have anti-wrinkle injections in your forehead, but are worried that you may feel heavy in the eyebrows or eyelids? Since 2005, Dr Gavin Chan (MBBS, Cosmetic Physician, Cosmetic Surgeon) and his highly trained, experienced team have successfully treated foreheads without the unwanted side effects of brow heaviness.

According to Dr Gavin Chan brow heaviness can be avoided by using the right injection techniques and choosing the correct dosage of anti-wrinkle injections. Your forehead muscle (called the frontalis) elevates your eyebrows and eyelids and is the only muscle that moves them up. The frontalis muscle has two bellies, which attach to just under your brow to lift up your forehead. However, when you lift your forehead muscle up, as you get older wrinkles develop.

Anti-wrinkle injections can be used in your forehead to stop elevation of the eyebrows and eyelids. They are based on an inhibitor that relaxes your muscles. We use several brands of anti-wrinkle injections but can’t name them because of Therapeutic Goods Administration rules.

How trained and experienced Cosmetic Doctors and Cosmetic Nurses can improve your brow heaviness with anti-wrinkle injections

Since 2005, Dr Gavin Chan and his highly trained and experienced Cosmetic Doctors and Cosmetic Nurses have consciously made compromises with how much anti-wrinkle injections they use in the forehead. Too much anti-wrinkle injection will cause the eyebrows to become heavy, while too little can result in too much movement or wrinkling of the forehead.

During the consultation, your brow position will be assessed and the dosage of anti-wrinkle injection carefully chosen. If you have heavy eyelids, we will start with a small dose. While this won’t remove all forehead lines or movement completely, we believe this creates a more natural look.

We avoid using anti-wrinkle injections only in the centre part of the forehead because the outer parts of the forehead will still elevate. While injections in the middle of the forehead can be effective, it’s a big giveaway that you’ve had some ‘work done’.

How to lift your eyebrows using anti-wrinkle injections

While many people, particularly women, want to have their eyebrows lifted with anti-wrinkle injections, this is not necessarily a good thing. During the ageing process, eyebrows elevate to compensate for excessive eyelid skin. We believe a fairly low, flat brow, which is full, is the most aesthetically pleasing. Using anti-wrinkle injections in the depressor of the brow (orbicularis muscle) can be a very effective way to avoid possible brow heaviness.

How using dermal fillers in the forehead area can avoid brow heaviness

Since 2005, Dr Gavin Chan and his team of highly trained and experienced Cosmetic Doctors and Cosmetic Nurses have effectively treated forehead lines with dermal fillers. These cosmetic injections revolumise and restore areas of the face non-surgically.

Many dermal fillers are made from a clear gel composed of a substance that is naturally found in skin, hyaluronic acid. We use several dermal filler brands but due to Therapeutic Goods Administration rules, we’re not able to name them.

Treating the forehead with dermal fillers instead of anti-wrinkle injections can be very effective. During the ageing process, our face loses volume making it shrink and shrivel. This can result in a concave area just above your brow. When we use dermal fillers to put volume back in your forehead, the brow will lift and reposition and forehead wrinkles will reduce.
