Hi, I have lines above my top lip and a few under the lower. Is there a treatment that could possible reduce them (other than fillers). They are ugly!
Wrinkles around the mouth are due to a combination of volume loss under the skin, repetitive pursing of the lips over time, as well as sun-related damage to the skin. To treat them, it is often best to take a multi-faceted approach. Fillers can help to revolumise the lost volume under the skin (like re-inflating a partially deflated balloon), but usually fare poorly in removing etched in wrinkles in the skin. Anti-wrinkle injections can help to relax the muscles that purse the lips and crease the skin. Finally, and probably most effective, is laser resurfacing of the skin around the mouth. Carbon dioxide lasers or Erbium lasers can help to smooth out wrinkles and produce new collagen and skin. The downtime of this treatment is the limiting factor for most people however. It usually takes 10 to 14 days to recover from the treatment.
