Have you got rosacea on your face with broken capillaries and facial redness? Rosacea is a common, chronic skin condition that’s characterised by inflammatory lesions and facial redness. This condition affects 1 in 20 people and can lead to social stigmatisation and may significantly reduce the quality of life of patients. The best treatment for rosacea is a combination of medical grade skin care and laser procedures.

Our 50-year-old patient Denise decided to have laser treatment to treat the broken capillaries on her face. Over time she’d noticed it was getting harder and taking longer to conceal her red skin and capillaries with concealer and foundation. She first noticed them in early 30’s and over time they had become worse.

When you decide to have your rosacea treated with laser it’s important to visit a reputable medical clinic that has highly trained and experienced Cosmetic Doctors and Cosmetic Nurses who perform this treatment regularly. Led by Dr Gavin Chan, since 2005 our team of Cosmetic Doctors and Cosmetic Nurses have effectively treated thousands of people with rosacea.

How we treat rosacea, broken capillaries and facial redness with laser treatment

The causes of facial redness, broken capillaries or telangiectasia, can be rosacea, UV damage or sometimes genetics. Telangiectasia is a skin condition where tiny blood vessels cause threadlike patterns and/or lines on the skin. These often form in clusters and are sometimes called ‘spider veins’ due to their weblike, fine appearance. It’s important to note that we cannot treat eczema, dermatitis or keratosis pilaris rubra with laser procedures.

We used the Gemini Laser to treat Denise’s broken capillaries as it has a wavelength of 532 nanometers. This specifically targets the oxyhaemoglobin (a bright red substance formed by the combination of haemoglobin with oxygen) in the broken capillaries and helps shut them down to improve the appearance of the skin.

By using this specific laser wavelength, our highly trained and experienced Cosmetic Doctors and Cosmetic Nurses only target the treatment area and not other skin structures.

What does it feel like to get laser treatment for broken capillaries and facial redness?

When you have rosacea treatment with the Gemini Laser, we minimise any possible pain by using cold aloe vera gel and a cold air device. Combined with the chilled laser head, most patients describe the treatment as being like a warm rubber band snapping the surface of their skin.

It’s important to note that a degree of redness and swelling will result from this treatment. The larger the treatment area, the more redness and swelling you may experience. Most of our patients don’t need any downtime and cover any redness with makeup when they’re back at work the next day.

There is a common misconception that broken capillaries and facial redness can be removed in only one treatment. Multiple laser treatments may be required, with most patients getting the best results by having three treatments a month apart. The number of treatments you’ll require will depend on your skin type and how carefully you care for your skin between treatments. Some patients come back every year or so for a treatment to maintain their results.

The best skincare to use after your rosacea laser treatment

After your rosacea laser procedure, it’s important to use skincare that hydrates, soothes and nourishes your skin. Cosmedix Serum 16 30ml reduces irritation and redness and is suitable for sensitive and dry skin. This innovative formula is the closest thing to prescription strength anti-ageing serum, without needing a prescription. It features hydrators and retinol that target the signs of ageing while protecting the skin’s moisture barrier function. Used regularly this powerful serum increases cellular turnover, helps reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, lightens age spots and reduces the signs of skin damage.

Cosmedix CPR Skin Recovery 15ml helps to soothe hypersensitive, irritated and inflamed skin. Blended with nature’s most potent restorative ingredients and free from chemicals, parabens, sulfates, synthetic ingredients, PEG’s and synthetic colours, this soothing serum promotes healthy skin recovery. Specifically formulated for complexions that need relief and recovery, CPR serum helps those experiencing redness or other irritating dry skin conditions.

Synergie Dermacalm 30ml is a highly active cosmeceutical formulated to soothe and calm inflamed skin. Containing the peptide Telagyn, this unique formula decreases the appearance of visible fine blood vessels and facial redness. We recommend this anti-inflammatory lotion for patients with acne inflammation, irritated skin, and rosacea. It’s also very effective to reduce redness after clinical procedures.
