Thank you for choosing Victorian Cosmetic Institute for your biostimulator treatment. Our team is committed to supporting you throughout your post treatment care. Below, we’ve provided important aftercare information to help you understand what to expect following your procedure. Should you have any concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact us for further assistance.
What to expect after biostimulator injections
Biostimulator injections are designed to gradually stimulate your body’s own collagen production. As a result, improvements occur progressively over time rather than immediately after treatment. It’s normal to experience some temporary side effects in the hours or days that follow.
Common and expected side effects include:
- Swelling, tenderness, or redness at the injection sites. These effects are typically mild and should settle within 1 to 3 days.
- Bruising, which may be more visible in areas with thinner skin or increased vascularity. This can be managed with gentle cold compresses (no pressure) and may be reduced with Arnica or Hirudoid Cream.
- Firmness or nodularity under the skin. This is usually temporary and part of the body’s natural inflammatory response to the product.
- Asymmetry in the first few days, often due to swelling, usually resolves as the tissues settle.
- Mild itching or a tight sensation, which should resolve within a few days.
Since results are not immediate, it’s important to allow the body time to build collagen, typically over several weeks and months.
Immediate aftercare guidelines
To support a smooth recovery and help reduce the risk of complications, we recommend the following care steps:
- Refrain from strenuous exercise, alcohol, hot environments (e.g. saunas, steam rooms), and long hot showers for at least 24 to 48 hours.
- Avoid facial treatments, such as massage, laser therapy, or needling, for at least 2 weeks after your treatment.
- Avoid make-up after treatment, ideally for at least 24-48 hours post-treatment.
- Sculptra patients are recommended to massage the treated area 5 times a day for 5 minutes for 5 days.
Follow up and review
A review appointment may be recommended 2 to 6 weeks after your biostimulator injection, depending on your treatment plan. This allows us to assess how your body is responding and determine whether any further sessions are needed. If your doctor has advised a follow up and you have not yet scheduled it, you can book online or call 1300 863 824.
Safety and support following your procedure
Biostimulator injections are generally well tolerated. However, as with any injectable procedure, it’s important to watch for symptoms that may indicate a complication. Please contact us immediately if you notice:
- Persistent or worsening pain, particularly if it’s accompanied by firmness or skin discolouration.
- Pale, dusky, or blotchy skin, which could indicate reduced blood flow to the area.
- Signs of infection, such as redness, heat, tenderness, pus, or fever.
- Firm lumps that become painful or grow in size over time.
- Visual disturbances, including blurred vision or eye discomfort.
- Numbness or tingling that does not resolve within a few hours.
If you are unsure whether your symptoms are normal, it’s always best to call 1300 863 824 and speak with our team so we can advise accordingly.
When to contact us
If you experience unexpected or concerning symptoms – including increasing pain, swelling, skin colour changes, or asymmetry – please contact our team without delay on 1300 863 824. Your practitioner will be informed and can guide you through the appropriate next steps.
Repeat appointments
Biostimulator injections typically involve a course of treatments, spaced several weeks apart, depending on your skin’s needs and the formulation used. While the effects develop gradually, they tend to last longer than other injectable treatments once full results are achieved.
Your practitioner will advise you on the best schedule for repeat treatments, maintenance, and supporting skin care based on your response and treatment goals.
