New hairdresser! You’ve just moved into your new suburb and its time for a haircut and colour. Sitting in the chair the apprentice asks you what magazines, wine and snacks would you like as you get your hair done? Wow, this is fabulous! As you sit back with a glass of wine, with your favourite glossy magazine, you wonder why your other hairdresser never offered this. But this satisfaction and ‘golden glow’ disappears quickly when your new hairdresser comes out. Sitting next to you, they ask you what you like and don’t like about your hairstyle and colour.

You haven’t been asked these questions for years so aren’t sure what to answer. Sensing your hesitancy they jump in, “Well you’ve got a wide and square jaw line so in my opinion we need to change the shape and style of your hair…”

As they talk about what colour and cut you should have, you watch yourself in the mirror, nodding and smiling. But inside you feel shocked and a bit sad. You know your face isn’t the perfect oval face your best friend has – but you never thought that it was ‘wide and square’!

As you get your hair washed and scalp massaged, you feel a bit upset and shocked. You can’t remember anyone saying this about your face shape before. In the chair waiting for the hairdresser, you look closely at your face in the mirror.

Pulling out your phone, you scroll to the photo gallery from 3 years ago. You know there’s a great shot of you at your friend’s engagement party. And as you look at the photo and then your face in the mirror – it hits you. Your face shape has changed – it looks like the area around your jaw has become wider.

While you’re waiting for your colour to set, you start to research jaw line shape and reshaping treatments on your phone. You come across information about the impact teeth grinding (bruxism) and jaw clenching can have on the jaw line shape. And that’s when you remember what your dentist said at your last visit, “your teeth grinding is getting worse…it will have an impact on your teeth, mouth health and even the shape of your face…”

Reading on you find out there is a solution! Jaw lines can be reshaped without having to go under the knife! It’s a walk-in, walkout solution that works.

Why does your jawline change shape?

A ‘square-jawed’ face can be a result of over developed masseter muscles. Your masseter muscles are attached at the angle of your jaw and control chewing. If you tense them or grind your teeth (or both) they become more obvious and produce a square and strong jawline. A tooth grinding (bruxism) usually occurs at night as you sleep.

The square jaw line can suit some people, but many of our patients would prefer that it’s slimmer. Our patients tell us that being able to change their jawline has helped then feel happier when they achieve a more youthful face shape.

How to get a slim jaw without surgery

We consider that anti-wrinkle injections are the best non-surgical choice for smoothing out your jaw line. Wrinkle injections help the muscles in your skin relax so they soften, smooth and create an appearance of smoother looking skin.

When we inject wrinkle injections into your main muscle that’s causing the bulky jaw (the masseter muscle) your square jaw and teeth grinding can be significantly reduced. Our anti-wrinkle injections have a protein that triggers the injected facial muscle to relax and smooth out the treatment area. How to reduce your jowls without surgery

Have you ever wondered why your cheeks are dropping and drooping? Cheek jowls dropping are commonly associated with ageing in the lower half of the face. Your jowls form because as you naturally age, the cheeks drop below your jawline.

If you don’t want to ‘go under the knife’ there are non-surgical options including dermal fillers and anti-wrinkle injections. Jowls can be treated by using dermal fillers and anti-wrinkle injections around your cheeks or directly along your jawline. The treatment we perform will depend on the underlying cause of your jowl formation. Look at our before and after photos here

How Ultherapy can tighten and lift your jaw and face without surgery

The Ultherapy device uses focused ultrasound energy to tighten and lift the skin – without any downtime! Our patients love that they can lift their face and jaw without surgery.

Our Ultherapy treatment focuses ultrasound waves to a deep point beneath your skin. Normally associated with pregnancy, ultrasound is a high frequency sound wave that’s emitted by a hand piece to capture and reflect images on a picture.

Ultherapy coagulates and heats skin proteins that stimulate collagen formation while lifting and tightening the skin. This deep heat helps it target the problematic deep skin layers without damaging any other structures or skin.
