Change your face with a non-surgical facelift

Dr Gavin Chan

Do you dislike the fine lines, wrinkles and ageing skin on your face but you’re not ready to have surgery to fix them? Non-surgical facelifts are a perfect option to combat fine lines and wrinkles, droopy or hollow areas and baggy eyes. The most common cosmetic procedures used for non-surgical facelifts include anti-wrinkle injections, dermal filler and Ultherapy

As you age due to the prolonged effect of gravity the skin sags and fine lines and wrinkles occur. Additionally, there is less support when you get older from collagen fibres, elastin fibres, less hyaluronic acid and your skin slowly loses its elasticity. This results in fine lines and wrinkles appearing on your forehead, chin, near your lips and around your eyes. You may also observe a loss of underlying fat below your eyes, upper eyelids, cheeks, lips and temples resulting in a hollow look to your face.

Non-surgical facelifts address the effects of the ageing process and can treat:

  • Sagging skin
  • Expression lines
  • Loss of facial volume
  • Brown spots and pigmentation
  • Wrinkles

How dermal fillers can change your face

One of the first signs of ageing is a loss of facial volume in the cheeks, eyes, brows and lips. This happens as a result of a loss of elasticity in the skin, loose skin formation and a reduction of underlying fat under the skin. The lost facial volume can be replaced with dermal fillers a clear gel composed of a substance that is naturally found in your skin, hyaluronic acid.

Dermal fillers can be used to reduce and slow down visible signs of ageing that include:

  • Thin lips
  • Hollow cheeks
  • A receding, shorter chin
  • Lines and wrinkles
  • Deep skin hollows and folds
  • Drooping, puffy and tired eyes
  • A downward smile, or
  • Drawing down and thinning of your face.

Dr Toro Ogundoyin (MBBS, Dip. FSRH, Cosmetic Doctor) treated the tear troughs and enhanced a patient’s lips with dermal fillers. Before the treatment, she cleansed the face with antiseptic solution and used ice to numb the skin. A local anaesthetic was used in the treatment areas before the dermal filler was injected with a cannula. Using the cannula instead of a needle results in less bruising and swelling. How Ultherapy can lift and tighten your skin without surgery

Ulthera is a non-surgical facelift that tightens and lifts the skin non-invasively using focused ultrasound energy. This non-surgical skin tightening and lifting procedure stimulates collagen production by delivering focused ultrasound energy to the skin’s foundational layers.

Patients who are usually suitable for Ultherapy are concerned about their skin laxity, tightness and tone but do not want to have a surgical face lift. It’s important to note that Ulthera does have some contraindications including insulin dependent diabetic patients, women that may be pregnant or breastfeeding and patients that may have heart issues or metal implants. During your consultation this will be explained thoroughly.

The benefits of Ultherapy include:

  • No visible downtime required
  • Only one treatment needed
  • Builds collagen
  • Non-invasive

After your Ultherapy treatment you will be able to go back to your normal activities. Straight after the treatment, the skin will appear to be flushed and slightly red. This should disappear within a few hours. Some patients can experience mild swelling of the treatment areas that feel tender and slightly tingly. Most patients only experience mild and temporary effects. View our Ulthera before and after patient photos here

How anti-wrinkle injections can change your face

Anti-wrinkle injections are the best non-surgical choice for smoothing out upper, middle and lower face wrinkles and fine lines. When you get wrinkle injections, the muscles relax, which softens lines and creates the appearance smoother looking skin.

They can be used to treat areas including:

  • Forehead wrinkles and lines,
  • Frown lines
  • Crow’s feet (also called ‘laughter lines’ around your eyes)
  • Under eye lines
  • Marionette lines (the lines and wrinkles that run from the side of the mouth towards the jawline)
  • Narrowing a wide face, and
  • Reducing chin dimpling

Since 2005, led by Dr Gavin Chan our highly trained and experienced Cosmetic Doctors and Cosmetic Nurses have focused on the best anti-wrinkle injection techniques to smooth out upper, middle and lower face wrinkles and fine lines. You will see noticeable improvements in the treatment area within a few days. Many of our patients report they see the best anti-wrinkle injection results after 7-10 days.

Anti-wrinkle injections can treat:

  • Your forehead lines,
  • Improve your brow shape,
  • Reduce your down-turning mouth,
  • Reduce your chin dimpling, and
  • Narrow a wide face.

Dr Gavin Chan (MBBS, Cosmetic Physician, Cosmetic Surgeon) and Director of the Victorian Cosmetic Institute notes a common area of concern is the frown lines and the lines across the top of the forehead. He explains that using anti-wrinkle injections in these areas “makes a big difference, because people hate being seen as angry or worried when they’re not.”

While anti-wrinkle injections are very effective at smoothing out and reducing lines around your eyes, Dr Gavin Chan notes that the best anti-wrinkle treatment will subtly rejuvenate the eye area. If all the lines around your eye area are reduced and removed, you can end up looking weird or ‘frozen’.

By taking the time to consult with our patients, we give thorough consideration to the overall balance of your face. We prefer to focus on reducing your expression lines, never freezing your expressions and believe anti-wrinkle treatments need to be aesthetically pleasing and subtle.
