How dermal fillers and anti-wrinkle injections can make mothers’ look and feel younger and refreshed

Being a mother is a journey full of joyful moments and fulfilling experiences. But let’s face it, there will be times when being a mother can feel unglamorous. In between looking after your children, running a home and juggling the demands of work, there’s not much time left to look after yourself.

While you love your children, you know that since having them your face has changed. From a few more laughter and frown lines, to a loss of facial volume and a downward turning mouth. Dr Toro Ogundoyin (MBBS, Dip. FSRH, Cosmetic Doctor) helped young mother Brooke look good and feel great.

Brooke felt like her lack of sleep combined with a busy life contributed to the eye bags and her facial muscles ‘dropping down’. By using dermal fillers and anti-wrinkle injections, Dr Ogundoyin added volume to Brooke’s cheeks and chin and relaxed the downward pulling muscles around her mouth. After her first treatment, Brooke commented that when she looks in the mirror now she sees subtle, natural changes to her face. She also noted that because she feels fresher looking and less tired, she feels more confident and happier.

What to expect from dermal filler and anti-wrinkle injection treatments

One of the major concerns our patients have about facial injectable cosmetic treatments is the possibility of bruising occurring. Bruises can occur if veins are disrupted under the skin. To reduce the likelihood of this happening, all our Cosmetic Doctors and Cosmetic Nurses use the Accuvein device https://www.thevictoriancosmeticinstitute.com.au/detail/accuvein-vein-finder/ This device visualises the veins beneath your skin, allowing the practitioner to avoid these veins with their injection points.

Another way we reduce the likelihood of bruising is to use cannulas instead of needles. Unlike needles, cannulas have a round end on their tip so they cannot pierce the skin. The round tip of the cannula helps to push any important structures (including veins) away so you will get less swelling and bruising.

We prefer to use cannulas instead of needles because they provide us with a more even and smooth result. This approach means our patients have less downtime, less bruising, and a faster recovery period.

Victorian Cosmetic Institute prides itself on our minimal discomfort techniques that include:

  • Local anaesthetic cream: Before your wrinkle injections, an application of local anaesthetic cream can be applied to your skin to help numb it.
  • Ice: Because pain and temperature sensation travel along the same nerve pathway, using ice on your skin before your wrinkle injections ensures less pain will be felt.
  • Vibration: When a vibrating device is used on your skin, nerve pathways that conduct pain become overloaded with vibrations and are unable to pass pain signals to the brain as easily.
  • Inhaled anaesthetic gas: Nitrous oxide (laughing gas) is commonly used for dental procedures or during labour. The effect of the inhaled anaesthetic gases we use tends to wear of quickly without any lingering effects after the procedure is complete.

How dermal fillers enhance your features and treat volume loss on your face

One of the first signs that you may notice with the ageing process is a loss of facial volume, which can occur in your cheeks, brows, chin and lips. We can replace this facial volume loss with dermal fillers.

Most of the dermal fillers we use are made from a clear gel that is made from a substance that is naturally found in your skin, hyaluronic acid. Dermal fillers have varying thickness, viscosity, and longevity. Generally, thicker dermal fillers last longer than finer, smoother dermal fillers.

Since 2005, Dr Gavin Chan and his team of highly trained and experienced Cosmetic Doctors and Cosmetic Nurses have successfully used dermal fillers to:

It is important to note that you will experience some transient redness after your dermal filler treatment. You will also experience mild swelling particularly with lip enhancement treatments. After the dermal filler treatments you will see definite changes, however the final results can take up to 2 weeks. View our before and after dermal filler treatment pictures here.

How anti-wrinkle injections beautify and refresh your face

To beautify and refresh your face, anti-wrinkle injections can be used to relax the facial muscles that are causing your deep furrows and wrinkles. Led by Dr Gavin Chan, our team of highly trained and experienced Cosmetic Doctors and Cosmetic Nurses use anti-wrinkle injections to target specific areas of your face. Anti-wrinkle injections effectively treat furrowed brow lines, a vertical frown (sometimes called the 11 lines) and laughter lines around your eyes.

Worried about your face being ‘frozen’? We believe your face needs to move naturally and that a subtle approach is the best. Our patients value the way our Cosmetic Doctors and Cosmetic Nurses don’t rely on the common anti-wrinkle side effect of completely frozen facial muscles. This delicate approach involves higher skills and a more careful assessment.

The anti-wrinkle injections we use contain a protein that triggers the injected facial muscle to smooth out and relax the wrinkles in the treatment area. Within a few days you will see noticeable improvements in the treatment area, however most patients report they see the best results after 7-10 days.

Anti-wrinkle injections are based on an inhibitor that relaxes your muscles. With several brands to consider, due to Therapeutic Goods Administration rules we’re unable to name the products. You can find out more about our anti-wrinkle injections here.

You could leave the wrinkles and lines around your eyes, between your eyebrows and on your forehead. But unfortunately, the longer you leave them the stronger they will get. Anti-wrinkle injections can relax the muscles causing these dynamic lines and reduce your permanent static lines.
